Uganda Culture, Cultural Dances and Cultural Organisations in Uganda
For thousands of years, culture has remained one
of Uganda’s treasures that is still adored by both the natives
and the various visitors to this country. Uganda’s culture
varies from place to place due to the different tribes that migrated
into Uganda during 18th Century.
Every tribe is characterized by its language, king,
cultural practices, beliefs, dances and much more. The cultural
dances are most interesting as they are a source entertainment.
The dances are categories according to the practices of a particular
tribe or occasions on which they are supposed to be performed. These
include dances for circumcision ( Bagisu tribe), marriage (Baganda
and Batoro), hunting, harvesting, happiness and war dances.
Since some of the practices such as fights for
territories are no longer taking place, some of these dances are
not performed any more. But these memories are not allowed to shed
out completely. These dances are performed by a number of cultural
groups on many occasions, hotels and in theatres such as Ndere troupe,
Rubaga dancing group, Nandujja’s dancing group and many others.
Ndere troupe, one of the best Cultural group has performances at
it premises, Ndere Centre in Kiwatule, Ntinda. It stages all types
of dances from al parts of Uganda and Africa as a whole. Watching
them dance bring out the true soul of an African. The Joy, Sorrow,
pain, determination, intelligence and perseverance.
Other cultural Organizations embrace Alliance Francaise
De Kampala that exposes the French Culture located at National Theatre
Building and British Council Uganda on Rwenzori Courts.
