Uganda Culture, Cultural Dances and Cultural Organisations in Uganda

For thousands of years, culture has remained one of Uganda’s treasures that is still adored by both the natives and the various visitors to this country. Uganda’s culture varies from place to place due to the different tribes that migrated into Uganda during 18th Century.

Every tribe is characterized by its language, king, cultural practices, beliefs, dances and much more. The cultural dances are most interesting as they are a source entertainment.
The dances are categories according to the practices of a particular tribe or occasions on which they are supposed to be performed. These include dances for circumcision ( Bagisu tribe), marriage (Baganda and Batoro), hunting, harvesting, happiness and war dances.

Since some of the practices such as fights for territories are no longer taking place, some of these dances are not performed any more. But these memories are not allowed to shed out completely. These dances are performed by a number of cultural groups on many occasions, hotels and in theatres such as Ndere troupe, Rubaga dancing group, Nandujja’s dancing group and many others.
