Tips for finding Safari Lodges in Uganda

Uganda’s lodges are commonly grouped into three: Luxury/up-market safari lodges, standard/moderate lodge and budget game lodges.

Up-market/luxury accommodation

; it is the best type of accommodation but highly priced. Booking is very essential for luxury lodges since there are few rooms available. Comfort and elegance spells the service provided in Luxury lodges. Excellent Dining is often part of the lodging package.

Standard/moderate accommodation

: This is a more popular accommodation option for most tourists with better accommodation facilities like running water and fully furnished rooms.

Tented camps

are classified under this style of accommodation. Some lodges have both tented camps and cottages for overnight.

Prices for the different safari lodges are determined by the quality of accommodation and/or dining. Dining and food costs differ in the different lodges. Any travel agent or tour operator in Uganda will give you advice before choosing your style of accommodation that falls into your Budget.

Budget lodges

often have basic accommodation. There are some lodges with options like designated outdoor camping space for backpackers, running water and private baths for some facilities.

Food and dining

Finding food and fresh supplies in the wilderness is not easy. If you are camping, you should carry your food and necessary supplies. Most lodges have self catering kitchens and trained chefs to help you with the cooking. Luxury safari lodges often have the best in house chefs that prepare both local and international cuisines.

Game meats (Zebras, Buffaloes and antelopes) are not part of the menu in safari and game lodges in Uganda but expect sumptuous meals with fish, chicken and beef! All accommodation costs include breakfasts-particularly English breakfasts.

Soft Drinks and Alcohol is provided in the in-house bars at the different lodges-however not part of the Full Board accommodation costs. Wine and whisky is also available with several imported brands. Keep handy with bottled mineral water at all times.

It is important to look at some websites with price comparisons for lodges in Uganda but some of these rating may be limited. Alternatively, we recommend that you take advice from previous travelers (read reviews and articles) or your travel agents. They always know what is best suited for particular budgets. Remember to discuss with your tour company the form of accommodation you prefer- say tented camping, backpacking or something closer to luxury safari lodging!
