What types of coffee are typical of Uganda?
Coffee is produced into two types; Arabic coffee that brings in about 20% of yearly National Coffee production and Robusta coffee that harvests around 80% of the coffee produced yearly.
Robusta Coffee is best grown in areas of East, west, southeast and in the central part of Uganda. Its grown on a low altitude of about 1,200 meters above sea level.Arabica coffee grows well in the highlands particularly on Mt.Muhabura, Mt Rwenzori located in the southwestern region and on the slopes of Mount Elgon in the eastern part of Uganda. The altitude ranges from 1500-2,300m above sea level.
Robusta is own coffee bean that grows around Lake Victoria unlike Arabia coffee that was initiated from Ethiopia to Uganda. It’s of high quality and best sold internatioanlly.Robusta coffee also has a natural quality that enables it to be sold favorable on the international market
There is a new brand of coffee called Tuzza.a.k.a Catimor that has hit the Ugandan Market; it grows well in the low altitude region which is more like Robusta coffee.
