Zawadi Africa Educational Fund and the Madhvani Foundation Invites Scholarship Applications
The Zawadi Africa Educational Fund in partnership with the Madhvani Foundation is pleased to invite applications from Ugandan Girls for 5 (five) University Scholarships overseas, in a newly developed strategic partnership between the Zawadi Africa Educational Fund and the Madhvani Foundation.
The Zawadi Africa Educational Fund is a US-based non-profit organization that secures scholarships and covers startup costs for academically gifted but financially disadvantaged young women with strong leadership potential to enable them to pursue a College education. The Zawadi Africa Education Fund is based on the highly successful Kennedy/Mboya Airlifts of the 1960’s, sponsored by President John F. Kennedy and Tom Mboya, who worked with Colleges and Universities in the US to bring needy African students to the US with the objective of having them then return to their countries to become the leaders of the future. The program wasclearly successful, as evidenced by the number of leaders who have come out of this program. Prof. Wangari Mathaai, a Nobel Peace prize winner, and Barack Obama Sr. father of Barack Obama and are some of the Alumni of this prestigious program.

In the first year of the program in
Two (2) Scholarships in Computer Science, ICT or Computer Engineering sponsored by Google to study in South Africa. The scholarships The scholarships will cover all academic costs (tuition room and board) plus annual travel, and most living expenses. Applicants must have the following qualifications:
a. must be a female Ugandan citizen, and a recent (past 2 years) graduate of a Ugandan high school
b. must have a minimum of 21 points in A Levels, with minimum grade point of A-6 in Maths and
Physics
c. Interested in majoring in Computer science, ICT or Computer Engineering
d. must show demonstrated leadership capability based on activities in high school or in the community (head girl, sports captain, community volunteer)
e. demonstrated financial need

ii) Three (3) General Scholarships to study in the
Applicants must have the following qualifications:
a. must be a female Ugandan citizen, and a recent (past 2 years) graduate of a Ugandan high school
b. must have 23 points or better in A levels.
c. majors/area of study offered in a broad variety of areas except for Medicine or Law.
d. must show demonstrated leadership capability based on activities in high school or in the
community (head girl, sports captain, community volunteer)
e. demonstrated financial need
Application deadline for the General Scholarships is September 1st 2008

(1 page or less) stating why you believe you would be the best candidate for the scholarship that you are
applying for and why you believe you would make the best use of the education you would receive if you win the scholarship.
