The Japanese government has approved the Shs165 million proposal for construction of a hydro-electricity dam at ssezibwa falls, in Mukono district.
The project is anticipated to commence before the end of this year, with an aim of relieving the residents of Mukono town from load-shedding after its completion, by next year and pave way for industrialising the area.
The secretary at the Japanese Embassy, Katyana Gida and Embassy consultant on Assistance for the grasroot Human security Projects Emmi Kurita visited and examined Ssezibwa falls to find out the feasibility of the dam project.
Upon the findings, Katyana articulated approval of the proposed site for dam construction due to the fact that, there is adequate water flow at the falls.
