Gorilla Family Moves from Uganda to DRC Congo
Uganda Wildlife Authority has announced the movement of Rushegura gorilla group from Bwindi Impenetrable Forest national Park into the DRC Congo on the 1st of September 2008.
This was confirmed in a statement by the Executive Director od Uganda Wildlife Authority Moses Mapesa. As a result, groups booked for the Rushegura group are now diverted to the Bitukura group in Ruhija which shall take 8 tourists just like any other destination. In addition, the Nshongi group shall be considered for tracking, should the need arise.
In the mean time, UWA has also stopped bookings to Rushegura as the authorities continue to monitor its movements. This is in collaboration with the counterpart authority’s Institure for the Conservation of Nature in The DRC as well as with the ORPTN in Rwanda whereby three countries implement in general, joint cross border programs relating to wildlife management, communityr livelihoods and tourism.
