UGANDA TO CONSTRUCT OFF SHORE DOCK AT MOMBASA.

In a bid to simplify congestions and cargo handling at the port of Mombasa, Uganda plans to construct an inland dock in Mombasa, Mr Omar Kassim, National Chairman Uganda Clearing and Forwarding Agents Association has revealed.

In an interview with the daily monitor of Uganda’s leading daily new paper writers, Kassim said that the project that is sponsored by a private investor who is also seeking for indulgence at a cost of Shs$20m (about Shs37b).

He said Uganda is also setting up such a facility on a 200-acre space probably at a place yet to be identified to save Ugandans the hassle of trucking their goods and paying high charges at the port. He said plans are in progress to study the viability of the project and several delegations have been dispatched and are making independent observations.
