SUDHIR TO BUILD NEW CMI HEADQUARTERS

City property Mogul Sudhir Ruparelia has acquired a prime 15-acre land in Kampala for the construction of a five-star hotel and a multi-storey modern supermarket.

The Government leased to him the land belonging to the Chieftancy of Military Intelligence (CMI), at the junction of Kira and Yusuf Lule roads as a compensation for revoking his lease for land on Nile Avenue, which belonged to Shimoni Demonstration School.

The Secretary to the Land Commission, Mubbala Kintu, yesterday said the land was allocated to Sudhir on condition that he builds new CMI headquarters elsewhere on a land to be identified by the Ministry of Defence.”

“We expect that Sudhir and the defence ministry are in talks over the relocation of CMI headquarters. As for us, we are almost completing the process of registering the lease
registration,” he said.

Lands minister Omara Atubo said the Government took the decision to offer the CMI land to Sudhir because he would sue it for breach of agreement.

He said Sudhir had paid sh300m as premium for the Shimoni land, but later, the state revoked the allocation and instead offered the 14.5 acres to Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Alsaud to build a five-star hotel. Atubo said the practice of exchanging prime pieces of land in the city for
land outside the city is good.
