The government of Uganda intends to buy, lease or hire helicopters and canoes for transportation of the CHOGM delegates.
A statement from the ministry of foreign affairs stated that,
“in order to meet the transport requirements for CHOGM , the government will purchase, lease or hire limousines , station wagons, vans, saloon cars, ambulances, trucks, motorcycles and other specialized transport systems such as boats, canoes and helicopters. It was distributed amongst members of parliament last week.
In as much as about 5,000 visitors are expected in Uganda for the summit, the Government is still faced with challenges such as need for more funds , more hotel facilities to be constructed as well as improvement of the road network in the CHOGM 2007 target zone especially in Kampala and Entebbe.
Out of the anticipated over Shs 106.6b, required for CHOGM activities in the financial year 2006/20007, only Shs 65bn was allocated thus additional funds are required.
Guests expected include the titular head of the commonwealth, Queen Elizabeth
There shall be four (4) major meetings of the commonwealth: the commonwealth youth Forum, the commonwealth Business forum, the commonwealth Peoples Forum, and the meeting of commonwealth Foreign ministers.
