NEW FILM PLANT OPENS

As the film industry in Uganda begins to bloom, there is another reason for thespians to smile as a new film production company, Metro Motion Pictures (MMP) that has opened in Uganda. MMP is a subsidiary of the Pleasure Masters (PM) Group that also has branches in Botswana and South Africa.
Mr John Kitaka, one of the company’s directors said that the Shs3.6 billion project will cost an initial investment of Shs1.7 billion and will kick off in January 2006 with training of the workforce. He added that since the scheme is aimed at developing the local film industry, they shall employ mostly Ugandans. They want 600 permanent staff and over 300 part-timers.
Among the employees will be actors/actresses, movie directors, producers, scriptwriters and extras. In order to be assed for the jobs, one needs to buy a registration form of Shs5,000 from all post offices in Kampala. Kitaka said that an applicant should at least have attended primary seven though the movies will be in both English and vernacular. Kitaka added that PM would partner with other reputable South African film companies to produce, direct, promote and market the movies worldwide.
A group of South African movie experts will select actors after auditions and will put the movies on high-quality DVDs with different languages that one can select using his remote control.
