The tourism minister Daudi Migereko finally appointed and named a new board of directors for the Uganda Tourist Board (UTB).three previous members were retained for “continuity,” ands five new mnembers were elected.
Ronni Madhvani, a co-director at the Madhvani Group of Companies, the managing director of the Maraasa Holidays, the owners of Mweya Safari Lodge and Paraa Lodges, some of the local popular tourist destinations was appointed new chairman board of governors, replacing Peter Kamya.
Madhvani was deputised by Francis Otille, the proprietor of Sunset Hotels in Jinja and an experienced hotelier represents the Uganda Hotel Owners Association.
Susan Muhwezi,the proprietor of Agip
Motels in Mbarara and the special presidential advisor on AGOA and trade is one of the board members.
Other members include artist Nuwa Nyanzi, the chairman of National Art and Craft Association of Uganda.Dr Gerald Musoke, the deputy executive director of the National Environmental Management Authority ,Blandina Nshakira, a director at the tourism ministry,Yusuf Mubiru, the general manager of Volcanoes Safaris and James Bahinguza, the UTB general manager are on the board representing their respective organisations
Muhwezi, Nyanzi and Nshakira have served in the previous board.
Madhvani was named in absentia.
“To have people with such a varied background and wealthy experience on the board, brings a lot of benefits to management and ,” Bahinguza said.
