President Yoweri Museveni has appointed a team under the chairmanship of vice president,proffessor Gilbert Bukenya,to find out why Aya investiments has delayed to start construction of Hilton Kampala Hotel.
It is alledged that Aya investiments is experiencing a financial crisis something that made them solicit for parteners in Europe and Middle East to fund the project;and the contract has been revised to state that the Hotel must be established within 5 (five) years period.However,a foreign bank that was to fund the project; drastically withdrew.
President Museveni approved the construction of a 22 storey Hotel in May this year; where Aya’s manager pledged that construction will be through within 52 weeks only, at a cost of US$90m in preparation for CHOGM.
Trucks owned by BMK construction company and several workers have started Levelling the ground;said Aya’s chief Mohammed Hamid.Howevr,Arab contractors which had initially won the contract,reportedly asked for a 25% down payment of the total cost prior to any construction work.
The Hotel, is expexted to be managed by Hilton group of Hotels, will have 292 Guest rooms and presidential suites,spas,swimming pools,beauty saloons,bisiness centres,Large garden pools,a squire ball room,eastablished on 14.5 Acres of Land on Nakasero hill,Kampla.
A government senior official,in a pessimistic mood exclaimed,
“…we are disappointed that this Hotel has failed to take off due to financial problems….this has left us in shortage of Executive rooms required for CHOGM….!”
