The civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has started construction work to upgrade Arua airfield into a modern aerodrome.
The modernisation works includes the extension and construction of the terminal buildings, parking yard and erection of new staff houses.

There are 13 airdrome facilities in the country including Pakuba (in Murchison Falls National Park), Mbarara, Gulu and Kasese.
The main air carriers to Arua are; Bukasa Air, Eagle Air and the United Airlines.
The fares are $100 (about Shs 183,00) for a one-way flight per passenger.
The airfield also handles United Nations cargo flights and other chartered schedules by Mission Aviation Fellowship.

The opening and re-gravelling of the runway, which started on December 9, will continue with laying tarmac on the 1.6-kilometre runway as well as expanding it.
