The Guinness Power of Goodness has officially recorgnised, Ms Betty Bigombe and Dr. John Omagino as winners of the months of June and September awards respectively.
Bigombe was recorgnised because of her selfless commitment and dedeication to resettle and craete peace in the war-torn northern Uganda while Omagino who is the Deputy Head of Heart Institute Mulago, was Renowned for his success to treat and save lives of hundreds of children and singlehandedly leading the equipping of the open-heart surgery in Uganda.
The Guinness Power of Goodness is an innovation of Uganda Breweries Ltd, which was launched in 1997 with a solitary purpose of recognising exceptional attainments.
Recipients of the Guinness Power of Goodness Award are selected by a section comprising senior editors and media managers, as well as respected members of the community.
Rev. Dr. John Mary Waliggo, Commissioner of Human Rights Commission, chairs the panel.
He appreciated the good work done for he named it a big challenge and he said he felt over whelmed for he had to make it happen to make it happen, for peace to return in northern Uganda. Peace will always remain indefinable much as task is not going to be quick but success is all about having a series of failures. he also said he believed he still had the ceremony held at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel on December 16.
Dr. Omagino said Uganda only needs $4 million to set the open-heart facility at the institute, which is far below the huge costs spent at transferring patients abroad for surgery. He added that if Uganda installed its own equipment,It shall be treating and saving a lot of people because it is a common problem. And this will stop the routine of sending patients abroad and begging for funds, we can build our own .
Dr. Waliggo said Bigombe and Omagino deserved the awards because they are both commited and dedicated to see peace and life, which comes back to mankind.
Some of the previous winners include Mr Jose Chameleone and Mr Richard Kaweesa, for the month of January. The next awards are slated for January next year.
