British Airways (BA) has transformed its baggage procedures in order to reduce queues at the airports to act in accordance with the British government’s department of transport recommendations.
Effective July 5, passengers will carry one standard-size bag, briefcase, laptop computer bag or an equivalent on all BA flights.
Weight restrictions will be removed but flyers will lift their bag unaided into the overhead lockers,†seat,†said Martin Bush, the BA commercial director.
A single allowance system for checked in baggage will also be introduced from October 11, based upon a set number of bags. The number of bags that can be checked in will vary according to the class of travel and route.
Maximum weight for any checked bag will be reduced to 23 kilogrammes to comply with health and safety standards.
The carrier will also be standardizing its excess baggage charges after October 11. Any bags that exceed free checked allowance would be charged at fixed fee based on the journey length.
