“With the help of Great Lakes we had an amazing
three-week trip throughout Uganda - the national parks; the smaller
game sanctuaries, the villages and their rich daily life; even
the church where we were married in the early sixties. We needed
a very special kind of safari, with the wonders of Uganda’s
parks being combined with the friendliness and charm of the Ugandan
people. Great Lakes showed us how a visit such as this could be
tailor-made, could penetrate some of the remotest locations and,
despite those bumpy roads, come up at the end with six individuals
totally convinced that Uganda is indeed a very special place.

We cannot speak too highly of how Great Lakes responded
to the challenge. Our guide and adviser, Martin Okot, who accompanied
us throughout, was really excellent. He was very knowledgeable
about all aspects of Uganda – birds, animals, geography,
history, the people and he was fun to be with. He really helped
to make this trip meet all our complicated needs.
There are so many highlights - the gorillas, and
the professionalism of the rangers in finding them after a few
hours heavy climbing; the tree lions at Ishasha, much heard of
in the past but almost reduced to mythology - until this trip;
the camp on the river at Ishasha and watching elephants emerge
from the forests to do their morning ablutions; the hippo frolicking
in the hotel swimming pool at Paraa by moonlight. But above all
the Ugandans, smiling, waving, always friendly, an enormous asset
on which to build the future tourist industry and in which Great
Lakes will surely lead the way.
Thank you Great Lakes!”

“We had an absolutely wonderful time in Uganda.
We couldn't have asked for a more professional, knowledgeable,
friendly guide than Martin. We learned so much during our visit,
not only about your beautiful country and its spectacular wildlife,
but the people and culture of Uganda as well. We feel very fortunate
to have found Great Lakes Safaris, and Martin in particular. We
wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone considering a visit
to Uganda.
Thank you so much for all of your help in coordinating our trip,
and please send Martin our sincere gratitude for a truly memorable
experience.”

“We have seen everything and even more than
we expected to see in all the national parks. We were lucky to
see a leopard in Queen Elizabeth NP, lots of tree climbing lions
in Ishasha and even lions in Murchison NP. Of course the gorilla
trackings were the number one highlights, but also the boat trips
and game drives in Murchison Falls NP and Queen Elizabeth NP and
the beautiful scenery during the transfer in general (mountains,
crater lakes, etc…). Roland’s favourite spot was Bwindi,
Joke’s all of Uganda!!!
We had chosen for a budget friendly arrangement,
and still all accommodations met with our expectations. Some of
the settings were really nice, like the tree house in Kibale,
Buhoma Camp and Bunyonyi Overland Camp. Also we also advise a
night at the Adrift Nile High Camp: great atmosphere with a stunning
views on the Nile!
The planning, made in cooperation with the office,
was very satisfying, offering a good mix of game drives, hiking
and relaxation. Many thanks for the flexibility of giving us a
second day at Lake Bunyonyi. A full day and two nights are advisable
over there (lovely place + safe swimming possibilities).
Finally, we were very happy to have Martin as our
guide. He taught us a lot about wildlife, nature, the country
and its culture, and he did everything to make our trip as successful
as possible, being there whenever he needed to be and still giving
us enough privacy.
We had many laughs, and Martin turned out to be a great companion,
and we will still think a lot about him when we are back in Belgium.”

“First of all I like to mention the professional
way and friendly manner in which our mails were answered - thus
getting us a nice itinerary together in quite a short time. Really
good as I stared booking quite late.
We have visited various countries in Africa and
we were enchanted by the diversity of the scenery. Rivers, lakes
and mountains and almost everywhere we went it all looked green
and fertile. What surprised and deeply touched us all was the
enormous enthusiasm with which all people we met shared their
knowledge with us. And knowledgeable they all are!
How lucky we were with Martin, our guide, driver, organizer of
whatever had to be organized. Martin had a solution for everything.
His knowledge on any subject it being either his country, people,
tribe or kingdom, game or his favourite topic: birds, whatever
we asked, Martin always knew. We felt safe and secure with him.
We also like the way the local community benefits from tourism.
Of course I booked rustic bush camps and most of
the accommodations met our expectations although, spoiled as we
are, we do prefer to have our own bathroom facilities. We all found
the beds, wherever we slept, very good and comfortable.
We had a wonderful time and hope to be back one
day to discover more about your beautiful country.”

“We had a great time in Uganda and Becky was
an excellent guide. He knew lots of people and hence, could make
last minute arrangements for whatever we wanted. We were really
impressed with that. We will definitely recommend Great Lakes
to all our family and friends.
We saw lots of wildlife and of course Kibale and
Bwindi were highlights of the trip. A visit to the orphanage at
Bwindi was humbling and the dances performed by the children were
astounding. Queen Elizabeth National Park is a stunning park with
lots to offer- especially the bat and python caves. Murchison's
has its own beauty and the nile cruise was fantastic.
To sum it all in the words of my wife and mine:
"This was the best trip we have ever had in our life"
keeping in mind that we have done considerable amount of travelling
in the past!”
