country is located on the coast, in North Africa, forming the
North African plateau extending from the Atlantic Ocean to the
Red Sea.
The Country is neighboured by Algeria to the west,
Egypt in the east, Mediterranean Sea in the north, Chad and Niger
in the south, Sudan in the southeast and Tunisia in the northwest.

National Flag: Green is the traditional color of
Islam, the state religion. It is also symbolic of Muammar al-Gaddafi's
"Green Revolution". The top right corner of the flag
represents peace, the top left represents life, the bottom right
represents faithfulness to the country and the bottom left represents
unity.

theory, a military dictatorship in practice

WHEN TO VISIT:
Libya can be visited at any time of the year.
GETTING THERE AND AWAY:
Libya has both International and domestic Airlines. Main cities
like Tripoli, Benghazi are served by most major European, Arab
and Libyan airlines (Airbus aircraft). These provide services
to many European and African cities with Tripoli as a hub.
Direct flights from places like Amsterdam go to
small oasis towns in the middle of the Sahara. These however are
operated by the oil companies for private purposes. Domestic services
as well as some limited international flights are provided by
Buraq.
There are daily flights to the major regional airports
such as Heathrow, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Rome, Cairo and multiple
flights per week to Milan, Manchester, Vienna, Alexandria, etc.
VISA AND PASSPORT GUIDELINES
All visitors to Libya require Visas except nationals
for Arab countries and Malta.These can be obtained on arrival
at the Airport. The Visas are normally valid for three months
and must be used within 45 days of issuance.
Visitors who need to obtain a visa from Lybia must
have your passport details translated into Arabic. All Holders
of Israeli passports require Visas. Visas are carefully controlled
and usually confined to those working in Libya or those visiting
as part of groups run by local tour operators. Applicants can
apply at any of Libya's diplomatic missions and may need to wait
weeks for receipt of a visa
Please note:
Passports containing Israeli stamps will not be
admitted in the country.
All pork and alcohol products are not accepted/banned.
Foreigners need to register at the police station
within 48 hours of arrival.
It is advisable to check with your nearest Lybia Embassy/Consular
before you travel since Visa requirements can change at any time.

Libya has several Tour and travel companies/Tourist
offices which offer Airline tickets and also offer other services.
GETTING AROUND
Libya has good roads linking the Country to other
countries, and cities to cities.
For guests travelling overland, there are bus and
"shared taxi from different towns to others.
There are bus services to both Tunisia and Egypt.
Some self-drive car rental services are available in the large
cities but the rates are typically high and the cars are unreliable.
Libya however has no international train connections
and no significant domestic train infrastructure.
Cars for hire are available includng 4x4 toyota
land rovers and jeeps for travellers through the dessert.

hotels and other accommadation facilities which offer several
facilities and services to the guests. From 5 star like Tripoli

ATTRACTIONS
Libya has several tourism attractions like the Ptolemais;
the city founded in the 3rd century B.C, Leptis Magna, one of
the best-preserved cities of antiquity, City of Cyrene, Ancient
Apollonia, Qaser Libya, known a the Old Olbia, gulf of Sirte,
Sabratha, Tripoli the old Oea, Libyan desert, Nafusa mountain,
Nalut and Ghadames-situated at the beginning of the Sahara.
MONEY
The country has several banking services in most
major towns. Cash in US Dollars is the best, and mostly the only
option. Credit cards and travellers cheques are not accepted.
A minimum of US$500 (or the equivalent) is required
to be exchanged into local currency upon arrival.
