REPUBLIC OF TUNISIA

INTRODUCTION
Tunisia is situated on the northern coast of Africa. It is bordered by Algeria to the west, Libya to the southeast and the Mediterranean Sea to the north and east. The Atlas Mountains divide the country into two regions, the well-watered north and the semi-arid south. Tunisia is one hour ahead of GMT

CLIMATE
The two main climatic influences are the Mediterranean Sea, which reduces temperature and produces rainfall, and the Sahara Desert with its dry, hot winds, such as the Sirocco. In addition, the Tunisia consists of two regional climatic belts, with Mediterranean influences in the north and Saharan in the south. Temperature are moderate along the coast, with an average annual temperature of 20°C (68°F), and hot in the interior south. The summer season in the north, from May through September, is hot and dry, the winter from October to April is mild and characterized by frequent rains.

VISA REQUIREMENTS
Visas are obligatory to all nationals visiting the country with the exception of nationals from Algeria, Dominica, Fiji, EU Countries, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Hungary, Iceland, Ivory Coast, Japan, Qatar, Romania, St. Kitts & Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and Grenadines, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Serbia, Seychelles, Slovenia, Solomon Islands, Kiribati, Antigua & Barbuda, Bahrain, Barbados, Belize, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Croatia, Niger, Norway, Oman, Switzerland, Turkey, UAE, United Kingdom, USA.

Australians and South Africans can buy a three-month visa at the airport on arrival. It can take a little while though.

Israeli nationals are NOT allowed into the country.

ATTRACTIONS
Tunisia's list of attractions would do justice to a country twice its size. From the Roman-era hot springs at Human Mellegue to the space-age sets of Star Wars (parts of which were filmed at Matmata), its lush-to-lunar landscapes have seen more action than the New World nations combined. Tunisia is a land of ancient exotica spiced with modern luxury. Spend a few days here and you'll agree.

TRANSPORT IN TUNISIA
Land: Tunisia has an excellent network of buses connecting all the main cities throughout the country. The service is cheap, comfortable with many buses being air-conditioned Regular trains connect all the main cities in the north of the country. The service is fairly good and comfortable but you will need to book in advance.

Water: Tunisia uses west med ferries fro water Transport.

Air: for Domestic flights the Tunisair operates regular domestic service from Tunis to Djerba, Sfax andTozeur. You will more than likely need to book in advance. There are many international flights operating in Tunisia and these include British Air ways and KLM among others.

CURRENCY
Tunisia's official currency is the Tunisian Dinar and it is equivalent to 1000millimes. Most hotels and all banks change money and travelers cheques, which are best taken in Pounds Sterling to avoid additional commission charges. Credit cards are very widely accepted.
