About Primates

Primates are the closest biological mammals to humankind. Man shares 98.4% of his DNA with chimps, gorillas, apes, monkeys, gibbons, and prosimians like bush babies and lemurs making up the 234 species of the primates family tree. Most of primates are wild animals existing in tropical rain forests of Africa and play a fundamental role in the ecological conservation of the environment in their habitat such as pollination, seed dispersal, and predation.

The size of these primates keeps varying according to species with the great apes like gorillas and chimpanzee being the largest over 181kg, and others like the small mouse lemur weighing only a few ounces. Larger animals that existed have all become extinct.

Primates are usually vigorous, intelligent, and very successful when it come to adapting to different environmental conditions.  However, they are moderately physically specialized compared to other animals such as birds, horses, and cats.
