Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, is situated in almost the exact centre of Namibia. It is home to approximately two hundred thousand people and despite the fact that this is fast growing the city centre is clean and safe. Windhoek city is characterised by German architecture, a lasting reminder of Namibia’s early colonial history.

Day 2, 3, 4 – Etosha National Park, 4 nights luxury camping

The safari begins with a drive north to Etosha National Park where you will spend your days on game drives. A delicious three-course dinner with wine will be served around the campfire. Fall asleep in your cozy canvas cocoon to the night sounds of Africa. On one evening you will stay in a chalet at either Halali or Okaukuejo so that at night you can observe the wildlife coming to drink from the illuminated waterholes.

Namibia Safari
Etosha National Park covers an incredible 22,207 sq kms and is home to 114 mammal species, 340 bird species, 110 reptile species, 16 amphibian species and, surprisingly, one species of fish. A massive mineral pan, dominates Etosha, which means “Great White Place”. The game viewing is excellent, the best time being from May to September. Visitors can expect to see many antelope species, zebra, elephant, giraffe, rhino, ostrich, hyena, jackals, bat eared foxes, Damara dikdik, lions and more. Fortunate visitors will see leopard and cheetah and rhino.

After 2 days of exploring the Eastern end of Etosha the safari crew will move the luxury camp to the Western end so that your game viewing will encompass as much of the Park as is possible.

The safari returns to the interior, heading for the Namib Desert the oldest on earth via the Moon Landscape, the Welwitschia Trail and the desert oasis of Goanikontes. This empty land is really mind blowing … stark, strange and eerily beautiful. Camp under a night sky filled with stars.

The Namib Naukluft Park combined with the Naukluft Mountain Zebra Park and the restricted Diamond zones total just under 50 000 sq kms making it the largest conservation area in Africa, and the fourth largest in the world. The Namib’s main attractions are Sossusvlei, Sandwich Harbour, the Naukluft Mountains and rare plant species, such as Welwitschia Mirabilis, and the rare Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra.

Day 9 & 10 – Sesriem & Sossusvlei area of the Namib Naukluft, 2 nights

The giant sand dunes and mountains of the Namib Naukluft Park are home to a fascinating variety of plants & animals that depend primarily on mists from the Atlantic Ocean for their survival. For the last 2 nights on this safari (you will be back!) enjoy your luxury camp.Namibia Hotels

The huge Sossusvlei clay-pan is enclosed by mighty sand dunes, some of which reach the spectacular height of 300 metres and are amongst the worlds highest. Only after a heavy rainfall does the vlei fill with water and as the clay layers are hardly impervious to water, a turquoise lake remains for quite some time.

The dunes of the Namib Desert developed over a period of many millions of years. It is thought that the vast quantities of sand were carried into the Atlantic Ocean by the Orange River. The Benguela current subsequently moved it northwards and the surf pushed the sand back onto land where the wind took over and even now continuously restacks the sand.
