Uganda is set to host the Heads of Government Meeting
in 2007. Aboutuganda.com is pleased to bring you the latest news
and updates regarding the CHOGM Uganda 2007.
A wealth of information has been prepared for you
ranging from news, hotel information and efforts to make this event
a success.
Every 2 years, the common wealth leaders meet to discuss
global and commonwealth issues and agree on collective initiatives
and policies.
These summits provide an opportunity for a unique forum for consultation
at the highest level of government. These are organised by the host
nation which in this case is Uganda in collaboration with the Common
Wealth secretariat.
Associated committees meetings usually take place in a week preceeding
CHOGM.
Parallel special events involving non-government organzations ,
business and youth concide with each CHOGM.
The most recent CHOGM was held in Valleta, Malta from 25 to 27th
November 2005.
MAIN ACTIVITY FOR CHOGM 2007 KAMPALA
UGANDA
The main activities for the forthcoming CHOGM in Kampala will be:
The opening Ceremony for the Heads of Government and other invited
guests;
The Execution Session for the Heads of Government;
The Retreat of the Heads of Government.
MAJOR PRE-CHOGM EVENTS
As part of the main events of CHOGM 2007 in Kampala, these will
be four major meetings of the Commonwealth. These are the Commonwealth
Youth Forum; the Commonwealth Business Forum; the Commonwealth Peoples
Forum, and the meeting of Commonwealth Foreign Ministers.
PREPARATIONS FOR CHOGM AT THE NATIONAL
LEVEL
The above indicated major activities for CHOGM 2007; and the major
events preceding it, necessitate national elaborate preparations,
made in consultation with the Commonwealth Secretariat in London.
These preparations are based on the established basic requirements
that a member state hosting CHOGM should fulfil in accordance with
a set timetable for the Meeting.
