Budongo
forest in Uganda
Budongo Forest is about 3 hrs drive north west of Kampala en route
to murchison falls national park.It is the largest Mahogany forest
in East Africa and home of the largest population of chimpanzees
in Uganda.
The main tourist sites are Kaniyo Pabidi
Ecotourism site and Busingiro Ecotourism site Kaniyo
Pabidi Ecotourism site: Lies within the boundaries of Murchison
Falls National Parks composed of Mahogany trees and Iron wood. The
115 km area is an isolated block from Budongo forest.Iits remoteness
ocassionally provides a sanctuary for the Lion, Leopard and Buffalo.Early
morning is the best time for touring as you will meet forest creatures
licking salt in the forest glades. The River Waiga provides for
refreshment of the species of the forest.

Birding ;
the best placeto do guided bird walk
is along the Royal mile which runs between Nyabyeya Forestry college
and the reaserch station.
Chimpanzee Tracking is the top priority .
From october to January, when fruits are more scarce, chimps roam
more widely,the success rate drops to 50%.
Costs:
Accommodation is available. Camping will cost 3000 per day.
For Chimpanzee trekking and forest walks, morning will cost 12,000
and afternoon 10,000/-
Busingiro Ecotourism Site:
Tropical forest and grassland.
Activities: Birding and chimpanzee trekking.. Birding
is mainly done at Royal Mile located 14 kms from the
Busingiro eco-Tourism site.For the birders it is imperative to visit
the 'Royal Mile' some 14 kms from the Busingiro Eco-tourism site.
Forest entry fees must be payed. You will also find a guide at the
entrance. Busingiro is one of the Uganda Travel destinations.

The best time for tracking
primates is July to September with 90% successrate of seeing Chimps.
Feb to May, 70 % and November to January drops to 50% because
of the scarcity of food in this season.
